The Fall Bucket List : 60 Activities to do for Fall

Dernière mise à jour : 21 août

Autumn is a season of change, bringing with it crisp air, vibrant foliage, and a sense of coziness. It's the perfect time to embrace all that the season has to offer. Here’s a comprehensive bucket list of 60 activities to help you make the most of fall.

  1. Make Homemade Apple Cider

There’s nothing like the aroma of fresh apple cider simmering on the stove. I love to toss in some cinnamon sticks, cloves, and a dash of nutmeg, letting the spices fill the house with that irresistible fall scent. Pour yourself a warm mug and sip slowly—perfect for those chilly autumn evenings.

2. Go Bird Watching  Autumn is a time of migration, which means it’s the perfect opportunity to grab your binoculars and head to a local park. I always find a peaceful spot, sit quietly, and watch as the colorful birds flit through the trees. It’s a relaxing way to connect with nature and enjoy the season.

3. Host a Murder Mystery Dinner Party  Who doesn’t love a little intrigue? I always get my friends together for a spooky evening of costumes, clues, and a little bit of chaos. Everyone gets a character, and by the end of the night, we’ve had great food, lots of laughs, and (hopefully) solved the mystery!

4. Carve Pumpkins

There’s something so satisfying about carving pumpkins—scooping out the seeds (which I always roast afterward), and then creating a fun or spooky design. Whether I go for classic jack-o’-lanterns or try something more creative, it’s always a highlight of the season.

5. Go Apple Picking

A visit to the apple orchard is a must-do for me every fall. There’s something magical about walking through rows of apple trees, picking the perfect ones right off the branch. Plus, I get to bring home a basket full of fresh apples—perfect for pies, cider, or just snacking.

6. Hike a Scenic Trail to See the Fall Foliage

One of my favorite fall activities is hiking through the woods as the leaves turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow. There’s nothing quite like the sound of leaves crunching underfoot and the crisp autumn air filling your lungs. It’s the best way to soak in the season’s beauty.

7. Collect Colorful Leaves

Nothing says fall like the vibrant hues of leaves as they transition from green to shades of red, orange, and yellow. I love heading out for a leisurely walk, eyes peeled for the most striking leaves to add to my collection. Once home, I press them in a heavy book, preserving their beauty for autumn crafts or simply to admire on a rainy day.

8. Visit a Haunted House or Go on a Ghost Tour

Every fall, I gather up my courage and head to a haunted house or book a ghost tour. There’s something thrilling about getting spooked by eerie tales and haunted histories—perfect for a chilly October night. Whether you’re a believer or just looking for a good scare, it’s a fun way to embrace the season’s spooky side.

9. Craft a Leaf Garland

With all those beautiful leaves I’ve collected, I love crafting a simple yet stunning leaf garland. All you need is some twine, glue, and your favorite leaves. String them together, and voilà—a natural decoration that brings a touch of autumn indoors. It’s a fun, easy project that adds a festive feel to any room.

10. Make Fall Wreath

Creating a fall wreath is one of my go-to crafts for the season. I love using natural elements like pinecones, acorns, and colorful leaves, all hot-glued onto a wreath form. Add a bow or some berries, and you’ve got a beautiful, handmade wreath that greets everyone with a bit of fall cheer as they walk through the door.

11. Bake Bread

There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked bread filling your home on a crisp fall day. I usually opt for a pumpkin or apple cinnamon loaf—something that’s as comforting as it is delicious. The process of kneading the dough is soothing, and the warm, homemade bread is perfect with a smear of butter and a hot cup of tea.

12. Visit a Pumpkin Patch and pick the perfect pumpkin

One of my favorite fall traditions is visiting a pumpkin patch. There’s something about wandering through rows of bright orange pumpkins, searching for the one that’s just right. Once I find it, I take it home to carve or paint, turning it into a festive decoration that’s uniquely mine.

13. Have a Picnic  Fall picnics are the best—crisp air, cozy blankets, and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot. I pack a thermos of hot cider, some cheese, crackers, and maybe a slice of homemade pumpkin bread, and head to the nearest park. There’s nothing quite like enjoying good food while surrounded by the beauty of autumn.

14. Take a Scenic Drive through the countryside

When the trees are in full color, I love hopping in the car and taking a leisurely drive through the countryside. There’s something magical about the way the landscape is transformed, with rolling hills and tree-lined roads ablaze with autumn hues. It’s a peaceful way to soak in the season and maybe even stumble upon a charming small town or a hidden gem along the way.

15. Knit or Crochet a warm scarf or blanket

16. Try New Soup Recipes

As soon as the weather turns cooler, I’m all about soups. There’s something so comforting about a warm bowl of butternut squash or hearty vegetable soup. I love experimenting with new recipes—adding a dash of this, a sprinkle of that—until I find the perfect blend of flavors. Plus, it makes the whole house smell amazing!

17. Host a Chili Cook-Off

A fall favorite of mine is hosting a chili cook-off with friends. Everyone brings their best recipe, whether it’s spicy, smoky, or sweet, and we sample them all to determine the winner. It’s a fun, laid-back gathering with plenty of delicious food to keep everyone warm. Plus, it’s a great way to discover new chili recipes!

18. Make Caramel Apples

Making caramel apples is one of my favorite sweet fall traditions. I start with crisp apples, dip them in gooey caramel, and then roll them in toppings like chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or sprinkles. They’re a delicious treat and fun to make, especially if you get creative with the toppings!

19. Plan a Staycation

Sometimes the best way to enjoy fall is from the comfort of home. I love planning a staycation, where I block off a few days to do nothing but relax, read, and indulge in cozy activities. I might try new recipes, binge-watch my favorite shows, or just curl up with a good book and a cup of hot tea. It’s all about recharging and enjoying the simple pleasures of the season.

20. Make DIY Candles

I love making my own candles, especially with warm, autumnal scents like pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon, or vanilla. It’s surprisingly easy—all you need is wax, wicks, and some essential oils. Pour the melted wax into a jar, let it set, and you’ve got a homemade candle that fills your home with cozy, fall aromas.

21. Go Trick-or-Treating

Even as an adult, I still love the excitement of trick-or-treating—or, more often, handing out candy to the neighborhood kids. There’s something nostalgic and joyful about seeing all the creative costumes and sharing in the Halloween spirit. Plus, I always make sure to have a stash of my favorite candies on hand for myself!

22. Attend a Football Game

Fall and football go hand in hand, and there’s nothing like the energy of a live game. Whether it’s cheering on a local high school team or tailgating at a college game, it’s a great way to enjoy the season’s camaraderie and excitement. I’m all about the snacks, too—chili, nachos, and maybe a warm pretzel or two.

23. Take hot bath with good book, and cup of tea.

There’s nothing more indulgent than a long, hot bath on a cool fall evening. I like to fill the tub with scented bubbles or bath salts, bring along a book I’ve been meaning to read, and sip on a cup of chamomile tea. It’s the perfect way to unwind and let the stress of the day melt away.

24. Press Leaves to create beautiful autumn art.

Pressed leaves are a simple but stunning way to capture the beauty of fall. I like to press them between sheets of wax paper, then frame the most beautiful ones or use them to create homemade cards. It’s an easy, relaxing activity that preserves a piece of the season long after the leaves have fallen.

25. Watch Halloween Movies

I love getting into the Halloween spirit by hosting a movie marathon with all my favorite spooky (but not too scary) films. I’ll make a big bowl of popcorn, light some candles, and settle in for a night of classic Halloween fun. Whether it’s “Hocus Pocus” or “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” it’s a tradition I look forward to every year.
